The Hamilton County School District is part of Florida’s state system of public education.  The School Board serves as the governing body of the district and is responsible for the control, operation, organization, management, and administration of schools according to the provisions and minimum standards prescribed by Florida Statutes and State Board of Education. Our board consists of five elected members representing the county constituent precincts along with the elected superintendent. School board members are elected at a general election for terms of four years. The term of office for a school board member and a superintendent of schools begins on the second Tuesday following the general election in which such member or superintendent is elected.

For the five school board members, the terms are arranged so that three members are elected at one general election and two members are elected at the next ensuing general election. The Hamilton County School Board of Education is responsible for developing district policy and procedures for which all new policy and amended policy must be publicly advertised and public hearings are held prior to being presented to the board for approval. The policy and procedure manual is accessible on this website.
