Hamilton County Adult Education

The Hamilton County Adult Education Program seeks to reduce illiteracy and under-education among adults within Hamilton County.  The Hamilton County School District understands that basic educational skills are considered requisite for effective citizenship and productive employment.  Our vision is to increase the residents of Hamilton County's ability to effectively participate in the local workforce to better themselves and the community at large.

Program Details

Program Requirements 

  • Call Donna Scaff at 386-792-6611 to arrange an appointment for enrollment.
  • Report to the Adult Education Classroom to complete the Adult Education registration forms.
  • Provide a photo ID and a valid copy of your Social Security Card (§ 1008.386 F.S.)
  • If under the age of 18, the student and a legal guardian must report to the Federal Programs Office to complete a high school withdrawal form from the last secondary school attended and a GED Underage Test Waiver.
  • Once all paperwork is complete, take the TABE entrance exam.
  • Attend classroom instruction, which includes workbook lessons on your level as well as Essential Education online GED practice.
  • After 12 classroom hours, pay a nonrefundable $45 cash tuition fee for one semester.
  • After every 60 logged classroom hours, take a TABE test to advance to the next level.
  • Go to GED.com to register for tests. GED tests include Math, Science, Social Studies, and Reasoning Through Language Arts (RTLA).

  • Earn up to 5 class time hours each day.
  • Two semesters per year, August – December & January – May
  • Follow the Hamilton County School District Calendar for observance of holidays, teacher work days, and school closures.

 

Program Completion 

  • Once a student passes all four GED tests, the state of Florida will award the student a Florida High School Equivency Diploma.
  • Students shall give a copy of their GED score reports to Donna Scaff, Adult Education Instructor.
  • Graduating students shall be recognized at a school board meeting.

Program Eligibility 

Hamilton County residents ages 18 years or older who are legally separated from the public school system are automatically eligible for enrollment.  Individuals ages 16 to 17 years may be eligible for enrollment by submitting a High School Withdrawal Form and a notarized copy of the Florida GED Testing Program Underage Testing Form.
