Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters - HIPPY
Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is a research-based program that works with families of 3,4,5 year-olds to support parents as they prepare their child for schooling. Parents are their child's first and most important teacher. Parents teach their toddler to walk, eat, talk, speak and much more. Preparing a child to learn is simply the next step.
How it works:
The HIPPY program helps parents empower themselves as their child’s first teacher by providing them the tools, skills, and confidence they need to work with their children in the home. Hamilton HIPPY is grant-funded by the University of South Florida and supported by Hamilton County School Board. We come to your house once a week to deliver the lessons and materials for you to teach your child. We go through the lessons with you so you can confidently teach your child one 15 minute lesson a day.
What it does:
Your child will learn SO much from you. There is a lesson in language arts, math, science, physical education, and literature. You will also share the joy of reading with your child. Reading to your child is one of the most important things you can do with your child. We can help you--and we provide the books!
The home visit will take about an hour. You schedule the time of your weekly visit. We will work within your schedule.
Hamilton HIPPY is an early education program available only to Hamilton County families. Contact us for more information or click on the RESOURCES link.
